Abstract

Abstract Transmitters are to be found in high concentration at the presynaptic terminal, where they have been localized both inside and outside the membranous vesicles which can be seen under the electron microscope. The pictures provided by John Heuser's very elegant quick-freezing technique provides evidence, he feels, that the transmittters are released principally from these vesicles, rather than from the surrounding cytoplasm.
