Abstract

Abstract Grain boundary weak links have been shown to be a major impediment to high current densities in high- T c superconductors. A method has been developed to obtain grain boundaries capable of transporting large current densities. In this method, a fraction of the liquid phase is removed during the melting stage of melt-texturing. This approach results in grain boundaries that are free from secondary phases and microcracks, and display values of J c up to 30 000 A/cm 2.
