Abstract

A consistent treatment of elastic and inelastic processes in the microscopic theory of nucleon-nucleus scattering is presented. It is pointed out that the transition potential used in the conventional “microscopic DWA” calculation must be supplemented by an additional density-dependent term. Elastic and inelastic proton scatterings on 16 O at E p = 135 MeV are analysed as an example. The effect of the additional term is shown to be as important as the difference between the g -matrix and t -matrix.
