Abstract

This paper proposes syntactic criteria for the recognition of auxiliation structures. In the journalistic corpus chosen, we could distinguish three primary auxiliaries (avoir, venir de, continuer de) for which the primary criteria are sufficient to recognize them as such; 3 secondary auxiliaries (être, rester, pouvoir), for which a criterion paradigmatic secondary is necessary; one tertiary auxiliary, for which two additional paradigmatic criteria are needed. However, these syntactic criteria are not sufficient to reject the phrase /venir + infinitive / as auxiliation structure. Finally, we examine non essential syntactic features of auxiliation structures, especially the variety of components capable of being inserted between V1 and V2.
