Abstract

In this work we have computed the charge asymmetry in e+e−→π+π−π0 which arises from the interference of the one- and two-photon intermediate-states amplitudes, for energies from 5 to 30 GeV/beam. This asymmetry competes with the asymmetry which originates from the interference of the one-photon amplitude with the amplitude mediated by a neutral Z boson, which is different from zero if and only if the neutral current couples to both leptons and hadrons. We have found that the dominant contribution to the asymmetry arises from the infrared region of the two-photon amplitude and that its behavior with the energy is very different from that of the asymmetry of weak-electromagnetic origin. Thus, it is possible to discriminate between the electromagnetic background and the neutral-current effect.
