Abstract

This was a multicenter international study, to identify typical CT characteristics of an uncommon adrenal tumour-pheochromocytoma. We created and tested a mathematical model to determine the shape of lesions that can be used in anatomical imaging. We found that pheochromocytomas typically present as spherical in shape, with a sharp, central necrosis and “ring sign” compared to other adrenal tumors. We created a simple imaging tool, which will be freely available on the Internet, to calculate the probability of a pheochromocytoma on the basis of selected imaging features.
