Abstract

Abstract The feasibility of using NMR spectroscopy on 2H-labeled surfactants as a means of studying molecular dynamics and order at the solid/water interface is demonstrated. It was found that there is fast exchange between adsorbed and free surfactant molecules. The adsorbed surfactants were found to have relatively high local motional freedom and a mobility gradient along the hydrocarbon chain, increasing toward the methyl end-group.
