Abstract

Abstract The parameters of DNA replicon synthesis have been examined at successive stages in the S period of synchronised Sorex araneus (S3/4) cells in culture by DNA fibre autoradiography. Both mean rate of chain growth and distance between initiation sites remain constant. There is, however, an indication that during mid-S, when cells are subjected to the maximum utilization of the DNA-elongating system, there is a slight reduction in the rate of chain elongation, particularly among the faster growing chains of DNA.
