Abstract

Abstract Commercially available CR-39 has been found to have some disadvantages which render it unsuitable for certain applications. We have measured the influence of various factors such as the degree of polymerisation, the percentage of initiator, the cleanliness, curing cycle parameters and post-curing treatment of CR-39 foils on the track response to protons from 1.5 to 18.4 MeV. The results together with new applications for CR-39 foils in the dosimetry and radiography of biological systems are described.
