Interscapular skin temperatures in the newborn infant

Abstract

Skin temperature was recorded at various sites during studies of oxygen consumption in newborn infants. Different responses to cooling at the various skin sites and in the color suggest that heat is produced in the interscapular area, probably by brown fat.
