Abstract

In this study, a method of calculating non-steady, friction-free, three dimensional flows in turbine stages is described. By using a conservative formulation of the Euler equations, compression surges in transsonic regions could be included. The discretisation of the convective terms is carried out using a finite difference method, where the approximation of the derivatives is carried out in an equidistant, orthogonal calculation field, which results from the application of a unique invertable transformation on the contour fitted network in the physical field. Algebraically generated H-networks are mostly employed to do this. Local network refinements can be made using an adaptive network generator.
