Abstract

Abstract Given any electrical network (termed the original network), methods are given for finding new networks (called equivalent networks), in which certain subnetworks of the original network and specified properties of this subnetwork are preserved. These properties which are preserved include: topology, branch parameters, voltage and current sources and voltage-state/current-state relations. A mathematical model of equivalency is given and basic solution formulae are derived. The algorithms are given allowing the equivalent networks to be chosen to satisfy many different criteria such as simpler topology, simpler V-I relations, separation of the network into disjoint parts, etc.
