Abstract

Abstract The physisorption and chemisorption of a number of pentanols on Cab-O-Sil activated under vacuum at 55, 400 or 900°C is described. It is shown that both the rate and amount of chemisorption are critically dependent on the molecular geometry of the pentanol. The chemisorption reactivity of the molecules decreased in the order: normal > iso > secondary > neo > tertiary The mechanism of the chemisorption reaction is discussed.
