Abstract

Abstract The integral total collision cross section for He—H 2 has been measured with an absolute accuracy of ±1% to ±4% between 0.14 meV and 2.9 eV. The data have been fitted by a spherical symmetric multiparameter Morse-spline-dispersion potential, which agrees well with results of ab initio calculations at short distances. The long range attraction can be described by the theoretical van der Waals constant C 6, if the dipole-quadrupole interaction − C σ R −8 with C 8 = 41 au is taken into account. The potential has one bound state for every possible isotopic combination.
