Abstract

Abstract Investigation of the phase stability of Bi 2+ x Sr 2− y Cu 1O 6+γ+ϵ solid solutions showed that their existence region at 840° C is limited by the border series given by x=0 in the range 0.3⩽ y⩽0.5 and x=y in the range 0.15⩽ y⩽0.4. Further the influence of the composition on the structural properties in the x= y 3 , 0.2⩽ y⩽0.5 and x=y, 0.15⩽ y⩽0.4 series was studied. It was found that variation of the Bi/Sr ratio plays an important role on the resulting substructure and superstructure parameters while in contrast the additional thermal treatment induces no changes of the oxygen stoichiometry and consequently of the structural parameters. This behavior is related to the stabilization effect of the intercalated oxygen on the structure.
