Abstract

Abstract Seeds of mesquite ( Prosopis chilensis) were pretreated using four different treatments. They were sown and raised under conditions approximating to those of a desert microcatchment area receiving a sudden inundation of run-off water. Three different periods of drought from the date of sowing to the date of inundation were used to assess the effect of drought on the pretreatments, in terms of both the percentage of seeds germinating and the index of germination value.
