Abstract

Abstract Van Lier, H.N., 1980. Outdoor recreation in The Netherlands. II. A system to determine the planning capacity of outdoor recreation projects having varying daily attendance. Landscape Plann., 7: 329–343. A system has been developed for the determination of planning capacity, based on the determination of the curve of exceedance of day visits to a (new) outdoor recreation project, and the choice of the normative day and maximum momentary visit. For the calculation of the number of visits, some use-models are given (exemplified by inland beaches in The Netherlands). The frequency of those numbers can be calculated by means of weather models, since large day-to-day fluctuations in weather conditions occur in the summer season in north-western Europe. Two types of weather model are described and calibrated for inland beach recreation in The Netherlands, a statistical model and a heat exchange model.
