Abstract

Abstract Reactions of the compounds threo -PhCHDCHDFe(CO) 2(η-C 5H 5) (I), cis ( threo -PhCHDCHD)Mn(CO) 4PEt 3 (II) and trans -(threo-PhCHDCHD)W(CO) 2(PEt 3)(η-C 5H 5) (III) with SO 2 yield the corresponding S-sulfinates with inversion of configuration, consistent with an S E2 (inversion) process. Reaction of I with PPh 3 in acetonitrile gives the acyl complex, ( threo -PhCHDCHDCO)Fe(CO)(PPh 3)(η-C 5H 5), consistent with a 1,2-migration of the alkyl group from the metal to a coordinated carbonyl group.
