Abstract

Abstract The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) plays a significant role in the pharmacological management of a wide range of medical conditions and also participates in the evaluation of the clinical and economic benefits of newly introduced pharmaceuticals in the UK. In this article, I will describe the position of NICE within the UK Medical system, outline some if its methodology and contrast NICE to other similar committees around the world. I will also delineate some of the key objectives of NICE with respect to pharmaceuticals.
