Abstract

Abstract A newly designed facility for direct casting and rapid quenching of metallic fibres and wires by melt spinning into a rotating coolant was built up. To control the entire process over an extended time period the flow behaviour of the melt jet was theoretically and experimentally studied. The important process parameters were examined to optimize the quality of the fibres and wires. Different alloys were spun to continuous fibres of circular cross-section and constant diameter.
