Abstract

Abstract The influence of the continuum on microscopic calculations of nuclear level densities is investigated by comparing two different approaches, one that discretizes the continuum and one that determines the state density there from the scattering phases. Whereas the connection between excitation energy and nuclear temperatures can be changed drastically the level density turns out to be less sensitive to the treatment of the continuum.
