PRESIDENT'S OFFICE 22 November 1944 Dear Dean Onthank: I am very much interested in your thoughtful letter of November 13th, and I want you to know how much I appreciate your writing so friendly a letter. You may be interested in knowing that- one of the Nisei members of our staff wrote out a little memorandum in Aaich he says that your position is absolutely sound. This is one of the reasons why I want to go slow on any West Coast establishment. Finances are another reason. Your letter comes in good time for our meeting of the Council on December 15th, and I shall want to present its substance along with the arguments of those like Marion Reith of the Y. W. C. A. who are urging prompt and rather costly action. Yours sincerely, Dean Karl W. Onthank University of Oregon Eugene, Oregon
