Abstract

Abstract The proton magnetic resonance spectra of compounds (CH 3CH 2) 4− n SiX n, n = 1–3, X = Cl, Br and I, have been measured and the variation of Δ[ = γ(CH 3) - τ(CH 2)], (CH 3) and τ(CH 2) with n are discussed in terms of diamagnetic anisotropy effects. Other factors such as inductive effects, and Van der Waals dispersion forces may make minor contributions to the chemical shifts. The observed coupling constants are discussed.
