Abstract

Abstract Nanocrystalline alloy wire of composition Fe 73.5Si 13.5B 9Nb 3Cu was prepared by annealing of wire samples cast directly by the rotating water bath process. The as-cast structure of the wire was sensitive to the melt temperature prior to the casting, but wire samples annealed to a nanocrystalline structure, irrespective of initial condition. The tensile strength of the wire and an estimate of the critical fracture stress intensity are reported.
