Abstract

Abstract Various methods for calculating the degree of association of molecules adsorbed on a homogeneous surface of an adsorbent have been examined. Equations for the isotherms and heats of adsorption and heat capacity of the adsorbate have been derived using a model of chain association of the molecules parallel to the surface in the first layer and normal to the surface in subsequent layers. The equation contains the adsorption-equilibrium constant of single molecules (Henry's constant), the heat of adsorption of single molecules and their heat capacity, and also the association constant, heat of association, and heat capacity of the associates.
