Abstract

Abstract Endogenous viral gene sequences, present in multiple copies and related to the primate type C virus, MAC-1, from Macaca arctoides, are found not only in related primates, as expected, but also in the cellular DNA of various carnivores (order Carnivora). These sequences are not related to the previously described endogenous viruses, RD-114 and feline leukemia virus, of certain Felis species.
