Abstract Celebrating nurses and nursing is a necessary undertaking for nurses. Not only does it allow them to take stock of their accomplishments, but it also provides a perspective on what has remained static and what has changed both inside and outside nursing. A celebration of nurses and nursing is particularly relevant today, as nurses have weathered a decade of change as well as tempered it, and grown professionally through preserving and building upon their foundation of caring. This paper highlights that important developments have been occurring. One of the most significant developments is an increase in the need for orthopaedic nursing research, nursing knowledge, and nursing practice skills.
