Abstract

Abstract Conceptually, cluster analysis is to find homogeneous and well-separated subsets. Since the existing method of FCM focuses on the homogeneous property and neglects the well-separated property, a model of BOFCM is developed to take both criteria into consideration. By comparison of FCM and BOFCM methods with illustrative examples, it confirms the necessity of considering the well-separated criterion.
