Measurements of Human Expiratory Droplets

Publication Date
  • Medicine

Respiratory infections could be spread via "contact" with droplets from expiratory activities such as talking, coughing and sneezing, and also exposure to aerosol-generating clinical procedures. We carried out a series of experiments using glass sIides and microscope as well as aerosol spectrometer to measure the number and size of respiratory droplets produced from the mouth of healthy individuals during talking and coughing with and without food dye used. Preliminary experiments were also carried out to characterize droplets generated in two clinical procedures of taking nasopharyngeal aspirates (NPA) and nebulizer therapy.
