Abstract

Abstract The structure of mechanically alloyed Cu 30Cr 70 has been investigated by EXAFS, DSC and anomalous X-ray scattering. It was shown that the alloy is not a real solid solution but has a heterogeneous structure in which copper is present in metastable b.c.c. form. A possible reason for the formation of such a structure may be the energy benefit associated with coherent copper–chromium boundaries.
