Abstract

Abstract The properties of the surface phonon-plasmon modes in semiconductor spheres with a surface depletion layer are investigated. It is found that the surface mode frequencies are lower than those of a homogeneous sphere. The extinction cross section of small spheres is also calculated and a corresponding shift of the absorption maxima towards the low frequency side is found to occur.
