Our purpose in this work is to think about the foundations of education that has the objective of building a citizen. We assert, as its basis, the principle of subjectivity. We do not identify subjectivity with the idea of a self-regarding and self-sufficient individual, who set himself up as the only criterion of acting and thinking. We, otherwise, conceive it identified with the idea by which the individual constitutes himself through the reference to another individual, and through the demand of mutual and free recognition. For this reason, we try to present the dialectic of recognition and the dialectic of culture presented in Hegels Phenomenology of Spirit. Finally, we showed how the articulation between recognition and the cultural formation process makes possible a universal existence as expected in the cultural formation of the citizen.
