Abstract

Club foot, otherwise known as congenital talipes equinovarus, is characterized by deformities of adduction of the forefoot, inversion at the mid-tarsal and sub-taloid joints and plantar flexion at the ankle. To these is sometimes added an internal rotation deformity of the tibia. It is essential to treat this condition at the first available opportunity and no less an authority than Denis Browne, of Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, has said that breech deliveries with club feet do better than others because treatment may be commenced earlier!
