Abstract

The recourse to Science-fiction in the public discussion on nanotechnologies : anticipation and futurology : Dedicated to debates on nanotechnologies, several articles in a prominent French daily newspaper highlight the driving role of anticipation in the different kinds of discourses which support nanotechnologies development. This study emphasizes the deep relationship between the scientific and technological imaginary of nanotechnologies and some trends of the science-fiction technoculture. Into a context of uncertainty and controversy, where the potential risks related to nanotechnologies are not yet established, science fiction has a prospective function and contributes to the social decompartmentalization ofscience.
