Places in the neighborhood:" A. Up down Tobacco, 1550 N. Wells Street " Piper's Alley. Topo Gigio." Old Town is a neighborhood which retains Chicago's past, and one that welcomes the future. Evidence can be found throughout the community. At one time, during the late 1960s and early 1970s, the area around Wells and North Avenue was Chicago's answer to San Francisco's Haight-Asbury, a flower power community of hippies and artists. Today it still has the artists, however, the hippies have all but disappeared.
