Abstract

Abstract Intracavity cw dye laser techniques have been used to measure visible (520–770 nm) absorption spectra of gaseous allyl isocyanide and to photoactivate this unimolecular reactant with bond selectivity using CH stretch overtone excitations. Measurements of photoisomerization kinetics over an extended reactant energy range (170–240 kJ mole −1) indicate that the unimolecular state coefficient is probably nonstatistical and a function of the reactant state(s).
