Abstract

Abstract Frequency shifts of the double resonance signal of the Zeeman transitions Δm = ± 1 in the 3P 1-state of 198Hg were observed under conditions of multiple scattering. A positive shift of δν/ ν = +1 × 10 −4 was found due to dispersion. Retardation by the time of flight of the photons resulted in a negative shift of δν/ ν = −4 × 10 −5.
