Abstract

Abstract A laboratory medium satisfactory for the isolation and maintenance of Actinomyces is described. This medium has been compared to brain heart infusion agar and Garrod's starch medium for maintenance and isolation of Actinomyces from clinical material. The Actinomyces medium is superior for maintenance and allows maximum growth of all the strains tested. It also supports excellent growth of Corynebacteria acnes, C. liquefaciens, Lactobacillus bifidus, and Leptotrichia buccalis.
