Future Flight : A review of the small aircraft transportation system concept

This special report no:263 by the US National Research Council Transportation Research Board is available in PDF format. The study was carried out by the committee for a study of public-sector requirements for a small aircraft transportation system (SATS). Two key questions were addressed in this study (a) do the relative merits of the SATS concept address future travel demands which would warrant public investment in technology and infrastructure development and deployment and (b) what are the important steps to be taken in support of SATS deployment? The study looks at future travel demand and transportation capacity of the aviation hub-and-spoke system, highway congestion, and freight growth.
