Abstract

Abstract Intact leaves of Vitis vinifera (L) were exposed individually to a CO 2-enriched gas stream (10 000–16 000 ppm CO 2 in air) under laboratory conditions. Stomatal closure was decisive (though reversible in CO 2 free air) but the CO 2 treatment had no discernible effect on endogenous levels of abscisic acid (ABA) which remained unaltered at 0.054 mg (±) ABA per kg fresh weight.
