Abstract

Abstract Norethisterone oenanthate and the acetates of norethisterone, norgestrel and lynestrenol were incubated in vitro with rabbit tissues. The oenanthate was hydrolysed more rapidly by liver than were the acetates whereas small intestine hydrolysed the acetates at a greater rate than the oenanthate. Slight hydrolysis of all the esters occurred with muscle tissue and although kidney, adipose tissue, heart and, particularly lung, were able to hydrolyse the oenanthate, little hydrolysis occurred with the acetates.
