Abstract

Abstract A model based on the energy concept that utilizes rheological data of the constituent polymers to predict formation of fibers of one phase in a two-component polymer blend system has been developed. This model has been verified for the formation of liquid crystal polymers (LCP) fibers for an LCP/PC blend system. Tensile test data and SEM fractographs from injection molded samples revealed that the model predictions were consistent with the experimental findings.
