Abstract

Abstract Compatibility studies were conducted of silicon carbide coated boron fibers in titanium powder and in composites formed by hot pressing the fibers between 4901 titanium foils. These investigations showed that the fibers were not significantly degraded after 1 h in titanium at temperatures below 900°C. At 600°C, the fibers retained their strength after being heated for 500 h in titanium metal powders in argon.
