Abstract

Abstract The infra-red spectra of dioxobis(acetylacetonato) tungsten (VI) and the corresponding molybdenum (VI) compound were investigated between 4000 and 300 cm −1 and an empirical assignment of the observed bands was made. The splitting of the bands in the low-frequency region was interpreted as a result of coupling of the vibrations of the two ligand rings connected through the metal atom. The WO 2 2+ group was shown to be bent.
