Abstract

Manufacturing companies operate in an environment characterized by turbulences and volatility, resulting in the need for permanent adaptation of existing factory structures. An important characteristic in this context is the factory‘s ability to change (changeability), which is defined as the ability to adapt structures rapidly and with acceptable effort. The changeability is a dynamic variable that can change as a result of structural adaptations and thus affect the degree of planning freedom in future periods. This article presents a planning approach that can be used to identify and evaluate the effects of structural adaptations on a factory‘s changeability.
