Abstract

A method to measure levels of internal migration in Brazil is proposed based on the hypothesis that the decision to migrate in a given year depends on residence conditions in that year only, and not on conditions existing in previous years. "That is to say that the migratory process is first order Markovian process order. These estimates allow a better approximation of actual migration, as opposed to measures of net migration obtained through indirect methods." (SUMMARY IN ENG)
