A survey was made of 43 hospitals in Arkansas to assess the degree of formality between these hospitals, hospital-based home care units (either the hospital's own or another hospital's), and public health units. The most formal arrangements are between hospitals and their own home care units. In decreasing degrees of formality are relationships between hospitals without home care units and other hospital-based units, between hospitals without home care units and public health units, and between hospitals with home care units and public health units.
