Abstract

Throughout history, epidemics have been accompanied by unscrupulous people selling so-called cures, and the AIDS epidemic is no exception. Increased barriers to health care and growing mistrust of the medical community have encouraged many to take desperate measures to manage this serious and incurable disease. Unfortunately, not only are many of these products ineffective, many may actually be dangerous. Consumers are urged to verify claims that a drug is approved, to be suspicious of anything that is said to cure or prevent cancer, and to question anything that is marketed largely through personal success stories and testimonials. Contact information for each of the ten states which have AIDS fraud task forces is listed.
