Abstract

Abstract Contemporary microprocessors offer several sophisticated technical features that were once the exclusive domain of large mainframes. The implementation of these capabilities in VLSI motivates the evaluation of these microprocessors at various hierarchical levels. This paper compares the basic architectures, the instruction sets and finally the overall performance of the three leading 16-bit microprocessors.
