Abstract

Abstract Transport coefficients are computed near the λ-transition of helium by considering processes in which one transport mode breaks up into several. The conclusions are that first sound damping diverges as | ε| −1, second sound damping as |ε| − 1 3 and thermal conductivity as |ε| − 1 3 with ε = (T − T λ) T λ for low frequencies. These results were first obtained via the dynamical scaling idea by Ferrell and coworkers. Less singular results are found at higher frequencies.
